The Grand Narrative

For those of you new to the blog, here are some favorite and/or representative posts, in no particular order: my series on the roles of Confucianism and Consumerism in Korean women's self-images; on their Caucasian ideals of beauty and attitudes to dieting, exercise and cosmetics; on the problems of Korean education, on cyberpunk, trance music, and becoming an adult in Korea; on Koreans' hypocritical taboos against couples living together and having sex before marriage; on the recent increasing sexualization of alcohol advertising in Korea; on the relationship between Korean democratization and pornography; on teenage prostitution; and finally many posts on childcare, maternity leave, and sexism in the workplace and media, originally inspired by writing this post on Korea's impending demographic crisis. Those are all relatively serious posts, pretty typical of the contents and style of the blog as it nears it's first year anniversary, but I too need a break sometimes, and I have lots of shorter, less serious posts, including translations of Korean songs and an inceasing number on creative Korean art. Finally, there is my most popular post on why Lee Hyori inspires me to study Korean, and although I no longer publish posts like these, it did prompt these posts on...*cough*...unconventional Korean study methods, and entirely too many posts in this category!
