It’s not often that this happens.

Despite what some readers may think, I am aware that no matter how much I justify them, post after post of Korean women in bikinis may detract from the impression of myself as an…ahem…undiscovered intellectual giant, which I claim in my ‘about’ page that is the purpose of this blog. With that in mind, I meant to redress the balance this week with posts on other subjects. I am still studying Korean for 3 hours a day, don’t worry (although that means I’ve had no time to post up the evidence, not that I think anyone misses that), and as part of those 3 hours I’ve been translating one Korean article a day. I intended to put them up on the blog and discuss them as well, but the ones on the weather and Barack Obama as promised didn’t come from the internet but from Metro newspaper instead, and lacking them in digital form I don’t really feel like typing them all out in full instead of copying and pasting them. Sorry.

So, surfing the internet at work yesterday, I idly looked at what other people had looked at on it earlier in the day and was interested to come across this article. Scanning the title, I thought it was about Korean domestic abuse and/or sexual violence, and so I eagerly printed out 2 copies, eager to pretend to read it and impress my social studies colleagues and women on the subway, and then reaffirm my feminist credentials discussing it further here. I’m glad that in the end I was too hot and tired to though, so I waited until I got home, because…well, read it for yourself:

 20대 여성이 30대 주부 세차례 성폭행 시도하다 잡혀

서울 성동경찰서는 같은 여성을 상대로 상습적으로 성폭행을 시도한 혐의로 김 모(28)씨를 구속했다.

김 씨는 지난달 27일 오후 4시쯤 서울 성수동 A(35)씨 집에 몰래 들어가 A씨를 마구 때리고 성폭행하려 하는 등 모두 3차례에 걸쳐 성폭행을 시도한 혐의를 받고 있다.

경찰조사 결과 김 씨는 앞서 지난달 25일에도 A를 성폭행하려다 “남편이 금방 돌아올 것”이라는 A씨의 말에 도주했으며 이틀 후인 지난달 27일 또 다시 성폭행을 시도한 것으로 드러났다.

김 씨는 지난 3일 세 번째로 A씨를 찾았다가 잠복해 있던 A씨의 남편과 경찰에 의해 결국 덜미를 잡혔다.’

A woman in her twenties tries 3 times to rape a married woman in her thirties and is caught by police.

A 28 year-old woman, only known as Miss Kim, has been arrested by Seong-dong police in Seoul on suspicion of habitually trying to rape another woman.

It is alleged that Miss Kim, on the 27th of July at about 4pm in Seong-Su dong, secretly entered a Mrs. A’s house and attacked her and tried to rape her. It is further alleged that she had tried to do this on 2 prior occasions.

The result of the police investigation is that Miss Kim had prior to this latest incident also tried to rape A on the 25th, but ran away because A said that “My husband will be back soon.” It appears that Miss Kim tried again 2 days later on the 27th.

On the third of this month, Miss Kim went to Mrs. A’s place for a third time, but didn’t realize that Mrs. A’s husband and police were hiding waiting for her, and so arrested her.

Not many details I know (sorry to disappoint you google search guys!), but then the subject of crazed lesbians doesn’t exactly redeem the blog eh? Oh well, I translated it, so it’s damn well going up here regardless!
