The Grand Narrative

Couldn’t resist

Posted in Admin and Blogosphere, Hot Korean Girls, Korean Translations by James Turnbull on July 20th, 2007

Despite what I said in the last post, after turning on my computer this morning and seeing this, I thought I should spend a few minutes translating some more Korean again. Seriously, I doubt I’ll become rich and famous for doing so, and there was the odd word and even a grammar point that I didn’t know. I don’t need to mention that I breifly needed my wife’s help either, so I won’t, but getting some free Korean tuition from her was a bonus too.

Sometimes I worry that the bloggers at KoreaBeat will not only beat me to anything I see but will also do a far better job than I could, but the subjects they choose are usually far more interesting and relevant than 2 sentance ‘articles’ on 이규리/Lee Gyu-ri, so I decided to go ahead. But before I forget, thanks for mentioning the blog guys!

My post on the Korean education system will be up this Sunday.

최근 네티즌 사이에서 ‘제2의 이효리’라는 호칭으로 큰 인기를 모은 레이싱걸 출신 이규리의 코리아 그라비아 화보집이 19일 공개됐다.

Lee Gyu-ri, originally a race queen,  but whom recently Cyworld netizens have been calling “The next Lee Hyori,” has become very popular and will be releasing a Gravure idol photobook on the 19th of July.

이번에 선보인 화보집은 ‘청순+섹시+럭셔리+네츄럴’을 주제로 제작되었으며 기존의 레이싱걸 모델로 인기를 누렸던 이규리는 고급스런 섹시미까지 자연스럽게 소화해냈다는 평가를 받았다.

The title of this photobook, her first, is  ’Pure, sexy, luxurious (makes sense in Korean; that is why all your students keep saying things like “Teacher, I am genius and luxury!” ) and natural.’ Lee Gyu-ri, who has enjoyed popularity as a race queen, has been described as naturally projecting an extremely sexy image in this photobook.

Yes I know, where would Korean expats be without me?

Ha ha. We’ve done our fair share of cheesecake translations as well mate. By the way your blogroll still links to the old version of Korea Beat…

Cheesecake? That’s a new one on me. I prefer “eye candy” myself.

Seriously though, it is a pleasant change from what I normally study for learning Korean, but after my post today I think I’ll keep the translations about race queens to a minimum. The revision of learned words is good, but there’s only so many formerly-virtually-unknown-race-queen-has-released-a-photo-book-type posts I can do before even I get bored!

    Fixed the blogroll link thanks.
